Resources to help you build stronger relationships with employers

Helping you have better conversations and build stronger relationships with employers

Employees are increasingly turning to their workplace organisations for assistance with various aspects of their wellbeing.  However, many don’t have access to the necessary resources to support the holistic health of their workforce.  Superannuation funds and insurers can help bridge this gap.

Employer Assist aims to make it easier for you to have valuable conversations with employers around topics like life insurance and employee health. Below you’ll find a range of useful tools and resources focusing on various aspects of financial, physical and mental health, which you can curate and pass on to your employer partners. These resources include easy-to-understand fact sheets, blog or newsletter articles, videos as well as guides on how an employer might run a campaign to share these with their employees to promote better health.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your TAL Partnership Manager.

Financial Health

Our research has revealed one in four employees are currently experiencing a high level of financial stress.

Financial stress can lead to employees becoming seriously ill or injured, which not only impacts the employees' health, but can also have profound impacts for employers.

It also shows there is a strong correlation between financial literacy and financial stress.

The good news is that employers and superannuation funds have an opportunity to improve employee financial literacy and reduce financial stress.

At TAL, we’ve seen claims for mental health conditions top the list for accepted claims in the last year.

In the broader community context, the Australian Bureau of Statistics provides insights into the high prevalence of mental health conditions experienced by Australians. The report indicates that over 2 in 5, or more than 44% of Australian adults have experienced a mental disorder at some time. This means there’s never been a more important time to shine a light on the positive steps your members can take for better mental health.

Cancer Health

At TAL, cancer was the 2nd highest area for accepted claims across our portfolio in our last financial year.

In the broader community context, Cancer Australia estimates there were more than 162K cancer cases diagnosed and nearly 50K deaths in 2022.

The incidence of cancer types in 2022 was topped by prostate cancer, followed by breast cancer, melanoma, colorectal and lung cancer.

The good news is that there are national screening campaigns for many of these cancers an early-detection provides the best opportunity for successful treatment

Together, we have an important role to play in ensuring employees engage with their health so they can live life to the fullest – not only while they’re working, but into retirement as well.

Cardiovascular Health

Conditions of the circulatory system, including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) such as heart attack and stroke, are the leading cause of death in Australia1 and the fifth highest cause of claims accepted by TAL.2

These conditions affect many Australians, but with the right support they can often be managed or prevented.

Simple steps like understanding personal risk factors, staying active and having regular check-ups can make a meaningful difference.

By providing evidence-based guidance and resources, super funds and corporate partners can empower their members and employees to make informed choices, maintain their independence and enjoy long-term wellbeing.

Musculoskeletal Health

msk content image

At TAL, musculoskeletal conditions were the fourth highest area for accepted claims across our portfolio in our last financial years1.

In the broader community context, the Australian Bureau estimates there were more than 6.9 million or 27% of Australians affected by chronic musculoskeletal conditions in the 2020-212. Of these people, 3.9 million (16%) had back problems.

In 2023, musculoskeletal conditions accounted for 12.8% of the total disease burden in Australia and was the leading cause of non-fatal disease burden accounting for 7.9%2.

The good news is that there are simple steps that can be taken to avoid these conditions including managing weight, stopping smoking and reducing occupational hazards.

Together, we have an important role to play in ensuring employees engage with their health so they can live life to the fullest – not only while they’re working, but into retirement as well.
